Tony Ashton uses all the experiments of Modern Art alongside the aesthetics that made the Old Masters great. He appropriates styles from Art History and presents them in a new way for a contemporary audience. Abstract Expressionism, Photo-realism, Cubism, Symbolism and Surrealism are explored in Post Modern dynamic compositions using the harmony of the Golden Section.
The ideas behind the paintings are sometimes ecological, occasionally political and have often included esoteric meaning hidden among the drips, textures and body prints.
Tony Ashton has been creating new forms and styles of painting since the 1970’s. Before that in the 60’s he had experimented with sculpture, printing, performance and multi-media installation work. He often mixed these separate art forms together.
