The Fourth Dimension

30″ x 48″
Acrylic painting on board

There is a mirror behind the netting so when viewers walk past the painting they are aware of movement: thus TIME is brought into play. Picasso had tried to show the 4th dimension with Cubism by presenting different angles of objects simultaneously. This is my attempt to symbolize the concept.

These mixed media paintings are intended to work directly on the senses provoking thoughts, memories, moods and atmospheres; they engage the emotions and hopefully stimulate deep feelings within the viewer.

Some of the paintings lend themselves to be comtemplative objects (like religious icons, moslem prayer mats, buddhist or hindu mandalas or church stained-glass windows). Tony paints round the edges of the canvas to emphasise the idea of a sacred object; something he has done since the 1960’s.

I used a lot of net curtains mixed with paint, glue and plaster for the texture of this work.
