When a young Robert Rauschenberg was given a drawing by the artist Willem de Kooning he took a rubber and erased it. For those who think that I’m showing the same outrageous disrespect for Turner, Tom Phillips and Michelangelo; it’s not the case. I love them all but appropriate their work because it is so good and difficult to replicate.
