This is based on a sculpture I made at Bristol Art College. It creates the illusion of three dimensions and then negates it. I was fascinated by the concept of paradox.
The shapes arrived at from employing the lines and diagonals of the Golden Section inter penetrate each other. The paint is built up from energetic Abstract Expressionist brush-strokes into a dramatic patina. There is a tension between the hard geometric shapes and the swirling organic brush work.
