My work is the synthesis of the ancient and the modern. I want to produce visually stunning paintings using modern techniques, but without abandoning thousands of years of refinement.
The Hybrids play around with and sometimes cancel perspective thus creating spatial ambiguity.
The Hybrids play around with the very mechanics of painting: flat painting contrasts with painting that creates the illusion of three dimensions, geometric patterns with chiaroscuro folds, abstract expressionism with representational painting.
There are also allusions to Cubism and Surrealism.
